From the President of the AUPN

Following an extensive national search, Jonathan Edwards, MD, has been appointed as Chair of the Department of Neurology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).

Dr. Edwards received his B.A. and MD from Wake Forest University, and his MBA from The Citadel.  He completed his internship in Medicine at the Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD, and his residency in Neurology at the University of Maryland Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident during his final year.  He then completed a fellowship in Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology at the Cleveland Clinic.

In 1998, Dr. Edwards joined the faculty at the University of Michigan Medical School as an assistant professor of Neurology, and he was promoted to associate professor in 2006.  While at Michigan, Dr. Edwards served as Director of the University of Michigan EEG Laboratory and Director of the University of Michigan Intraoperative Monitoring Laboratory.  Dr. Edwards was then recruited to MUSC in 2007 as an associate professor of Neurology, and he was promoted to professor in 2011.  During his tenure at MUSC, Dr. Edwards has served in a number of important leadership roles including Director of the MUSC Epilepsy Center, Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs for the Department of Neurology, Neurophysiology Fellowship Program Director, ICCE Chief for Neurosciences, and Interim Chair of the Department of Neurology.  He has also served as a member of the MUSC Physicians Board of Directors, Chair of the MUSC Credentialing Committee, and as a member of the MUSC Medical Executive Committee.  Dr. Edwards has also been quite active nationally in the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society, where he has served as Secretary, Vice President, and President, and with the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology, where he has served as Secretary/Treasurer and Executive Board Member.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Edwards in his new role.
