AUPN Meeting, Career Fair, & COVID Burnout…

The Voice of Academic Neurology's Leaders

Registration for the first ever virtual AUPN Fall Meeting is now open.  As in past years, our meeting will be held in conjunction with the ANA fall meeting (also virtual), from October 4th - 9th.

The AUPN Chairs’ Sessions include: How to recruit medical students into neurology (Oct. 6th, 10:30 AM EST), Fostering junior faculty development (Oct. 7th, 10:30 AM EST) and Getting what you need from your Dean and from your faculty (Oct. 8th, 10:30 AM EST). AUPN Networking for Small Departments will also be held virtually (Oct. 9th, 12:30 PM EST).   The ANA and AUPN are also co-hosting a new Meet the Chairs session directed at the ANA membership (Oct. 8th, 11:30 AM EST), featuring a panel of chairs discussing the path to becoming a chair, the nature of the job, and its rewards and challenges.

The annual ANA/AUPN Career Fair is also back for its 3rd year, in a new virtual format (Oct. 7th, 6 PM EST). During these challenging times, the AUPN is paying table registration fees for the first 20 departments to register for the Career Fair, as a way of thanking members for their ongoing support of the AUPN.  Registering Chairs must be members of both the AUPN and the ANA to qualify and those Chairs should have received emails earlier this week with instructions and links for this special opportunity.  After the first 20 spots are claimed, registration will still be available at the usual rate, at the below link.

AUPN members must register for the ANA meeting to attend the AUPN sessions, because we are sharing the same virtual platform.  ANA Meeting registration is free for ANA members during this year, and AUPN registration is included with your AUPN membership at no extra charge (registration links below).

Managing physician burnout has been a major issue of concern over the last several years and COVID burnout has become a problem unto itself, especially for healthcare workers in areas which have become hotspots like New York, Florida, Arizona and others.  Physicians already had the highest suicide rate of any profession prior to COVID, and the added stress of the pandemic is worsening an already bad situation.  Today’s Resource Links provide an overview of physician and COVID burnout, along with mitigation strategies.
