The AUPN’s stand-alone podcast series, entitled AUPN’s Leading Edge, is launching soon. Leading Edge will focus on issues of interest and practical use to Neurology Department Chairs, and will be freely available on Apple’s iTunes, Spotify and Google. AUPN’s Leading Edge first episode preview segment is linked below, and our inaugural episode (So you want to be a Dean: Pros, Cons, Joys and Tribulations) should be available for download/streaming in September.
The AUPN Online Engagement Committee has been hard at work on a variety of initiatives. Special thanks to committee members Alissa Willis and Mud Alvi, who reorganized the educational materials on the updated AUPN Website. One of the AUPN’s great resources is our library of past presentations from our spring and fall meeting programs, available under the Education tab. Previously this was organized by year, but is now organized by topics, such as Leadership Development; Productivity, Compensation & Quality; Research; Recruitment, etc. Similarly, we are aggregating this newsletter’s weekly Resource Links, also organized by topic, under the Chair’s Resources tab.
Speaking of our meeting programs, there has been considerable interest in our annual AUPN Networking Session for Small Departments (now virtual), which will include a round table discussion of Neuroscience Service Lines, Diversity, Productivity & Metrics as well as other important topics affecting smaller departments and institutions. More details of all the 2020 Fall Meeting Programs can also be found on the website, and links for meeting registration are below. Congratulations to the Chairs who took advantage of the AUPN’s offer of free booths (to the first 20 applicants) for the AUPN/ANA Virtual Career fair. Additional booths are still available at a reduced rate for AUPN members.
We recently welcomed the Chiefs of academically affiliated Veteran’s Affairs Neurology Services to the AUPN, and plans are underway to develop future programs directed at this important group. We would like to congratulation Dr. Don Higgins on his great service as the National Director of Neurology at the V.A. and his acceptance of a new position as Chief Physician Educator for the National Center for Patient Safety. We also congratulate his successor as National V.A. Neurology Director, Dr. Sharyl Martini, and will have a more complete profile of her in a future issue.
