It’s hard to believe that my two-year term as President of the AUPN is coming to a close, and this is my last Saturday email. I want to thank all of you for making my Presidency a rewarding and memorable experience.
The AUPN continues to thrive as a forum for the Chairs of Academic Neurology Departments to discuss academic interests and challenges and share best practices. I am proud of the many achievements over the past two years most notably:
- Engagement of new Chairs through the creation of an AUPN New Chair Luncheon and implementation of a mentor program for new Chairs;
- Publication of The state of academic neurology departments in the United States, 2016: A national survey in a special edition of Neurology by the AAN (special thank you to Dr. Cliff Gooch for his hard work developing the survey and writing the publication);
- Awareness of academic careers through promotion of AUPN’s on-line career center which has now become an invaluable resource;
- Increased collaborations with like-minded neurological associations including AAN, ANA ASN and ABPN; and
- Increase in membership in the AUPN resulting in 138 Chairs engaging in our community.
As I transition into the role of Past President, I ask that you please join me in welcoming Robin Brey, who will take over as President next week. I would like to thank Robin and all members of the AUPN Council who have helped continue to invigorate the AUPN over the past two years.
The AUPN is your organization! We want to make sure you continue to feel the value AUPN membership provides you and your department. If you would like to become more involved in the AUPN, have ideas of how we may improve, or have thoughts about other programs AUPN could provide, please let is know, either through the AUPN office at email@example.com or by contacting Robin or me by email.
My sincerest thanks to all who contributed to these successful several years. I look forward to continuing our work together under the leadership of Dr. Brey.

Dear AUPN Chairs:
Based on the enthusiastic survey results we received, the AUPN, in collaboration with the ANA, is excited to announce a New ANA/AUPN Career Fair to be held during the 2018 ANA Annual Meeting. This Career Fair is scheduled for Sunday, October 21 from 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM and will provide an opportunity for Department Chairs to meet with trainees and junior faculty to discuss current job opportunities.
Each Chair will receive a dedicated table in a common space with a table tent listing their represented institution. During dedicated Career Fair hours, trainees and junior faculty will be able to visit your table to present their CVs and have brief discussions regarding open positions at your institution. Each table will be placed with enough distance to allow private conversions, and Chairs are encouraged to schedule follow up meetings with potential candidates outside of the Career Fair. Trainees and junior faculty will be able to locate each table via the ANA Annual Meeting app.
There is no cost to participate in the Career Fair; however if you wish to attend other ANA programming, you must register for the ANA Annual Meeting. If your department is interested in participating in the ANA/AUPN Career Fair, we ask that you please register by Monday, May 21st.
If you have questions, please contact the AUPN Executive Office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
