The Department of Neurology (NEU), invites applicants to apply for the position of Clerkship Director at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, tenure ineligible track. The Department of Neurology is responsible for fostering and assessing the skills, knowledge, and professionalism of students necessary for success in graduate medical education and military medical practice; maintains an academic environment strongly supporting productive basic science and clinical research endeavors; fosters academic excellence through effective faculty development programs, periodic faculty review, and strong support for academic advancement; demonstrates, through a skilled faculty, the role model of a compassionate, dedicated caregiver and teacher as well as an innovative, ethical clinician-scientist; supports military readiness with expertise on neurologic disorders of relevant to operational medicine; fosters academic excellence in professional training throughout military graduate medical education; and provides public presentations supporting graduate and continuing medical education on neurology and related topics.

Duties: The incumbent will serve as Assistant or Associate Professor and Clerkship Director in the Department of Neurology and as such, will be responsible for ensuring the neurology clerkship curriculum is aligned with USU’s overall curriculum and the pre-clerkship curriculum; assist in coordinating resident and faculty teaching of medical students, and resident and faculty teaching of health care professionals in other specialties; perform evaluations of medical students, provide patient care, and participate in academic/research activities with a focus on education. As Clerkship Director, the incumbent will participate in developing the education vision, promoting the education missions of the Department of Neurology and USU, evolving the concept of an integrated curriculum and sharing these concepts with clinical instructors at all clerkship sites through faculty development. Additional responsibilities include but aren’t limited to: (1) participating in USU committees as assigned by the Chair, (2) performing patient care including all appropriate technical procedures, (3) supervising all patient care activities performed by staff and students in area of expertise; (4) assisting in administrative duties of the neurology department as assigned by the Chair, (5) assist in creating and implementing remediation plans for struggling students (6) develop distance learning program accessible to students at off-site locations.

Qualification Requirements: The incumbent must possess a minimum of a medical (M.D. or D.O.) degree, be board certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, maintain an active license to practice medicine in a state, and be credentialed for the full range of Neurology practice in a hospital setting.

Position requires: experience in teaching medical students and/or residents and experience with or interest in clinical research (as reflected by a portfolio demonstrating significant involvement in these areas); active membership in scholarly societies appropriate to the Department of Neurology. The successful candidate must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in accordance with USUHS academic guidelines.
