New Chair of Neurology Dr. Daniel Woo has been appointed the Irvin and Rosemary Smith Endowed Chair of Neurology in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo. Dr. Woo is an internationally recognized expert in stroke, especially the genetic epidemiology of stroke. He ranks among the top-funded investigators in the field of neurology. He led the first large-scale genome association study that identified a genetic risk factor for intracerebral hemorrhage. Dr. Woo will also serve as President and CEO of UBMD Neurology within the UBMD Physicians’ Group. Please congratulate Dr. Woo on his new position and welcome him to AUPN!

ABPN Grant Awards Program The ABPN has established the Faculty Innovation in Education Award and the ABPN Dorthea Juul, PhD, Education Research Award to support projects that involve innovations in education or education research related to the ABPN's mission. The focus includes enhancing residency and fellowship training, as well as promoting professional development throughout the career span. The application deadline for both awards is July 28, 2025. AUPN Job Board One of the key benefits that AUPN offers our current dues paying members is the ability to post open positions free of charge. Leadership positions, such as Department Chair or Division Chief roles, are posted until they are filled and featured in our monthly newsletter, as well as the ANA newsletter. Leadership Minute This month’s Leadership Minute is entitled “Dealing with Sour Apples: How to Manage Challenging Faculty”. The speaker is Steve Galetta, MD, of the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, and the moderator is Rohit Das, MD, of Oregon Health & Science University. In this segment, Dr. Galetta offers advice on managing difficult faculty members. He points out that one of the most demanding jobs as a leader is managing challenging faculty members who act unprofessionally with colleagues, patients, or trainees, or who are unreliable in performing their duties. In this podcast, he offers suggestions to prevent, improve, or mitigate such unwanted behaviors.
