VAGLAHS: Chief, Neurology Service

VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is seeking a full-time Chief of Neurology to join our dynamic team. VAGLA is a Level 1a complexity, tertiary care health delivery organization that provides comprehensive care to one of the largest Veteran populations in the VA system. It covers a large geographic area in Southern California. The health system includes an inpatient facility, eight community clinics, and two large ambulatory care centers.

Qualifications:

  • Licensure: a full & unrestricted medical license from any US State or territory
  • Must be board certified in Neurology.
  • Must have significant leadership, mentoring, and management experience in a tertiary care environment.
  • Must have expertise in academic missions of education and research.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of current trends in health care, including physician practice models, access issues, quality improvement processes, and clinical information systems.
  • Experience in large, advanced, complex health system preferred

Work Schedule: M-F | 8 am – 4:30 pm

Overview:
The Chief of Neurology is responsible for the leadership and direction of the Neurology Service at VAGLA. This role encompasses the planning, organizing, directing, and coordination of complex Neurology programs. Primary to the role is the responsibility for forecasting requirements necessary for long-range program planning and model development for the effective delivery of overall neurologic health care. The scope includes a fast paced, dynamic environment routinely involving numerous interactions and program planning activities with other leaders of the Medical Center. As key advisor to the Chief of Staff and Medical Center Director on neurology clinical issues, the Chief is accountable for the overall scope of neurologic care provided.  The Neurology Service provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for Veterans diagnosed with acute and chronic neurologic illnesses. This includes, but is not limited to, diagnostic evaluations, medication management, case management, emergency services, telehealth, and inpatient consultations.  The Chief provides direct and indirect oversight to the educational and research missions of the Neurology Service and should be qualified for appointment at the associate or full professor level at the David Geffen School of Medicine of the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). The Chief works collaboratively with the Associate Chief of Staff for Education to ensure that education and training activities are conducted appropriately and meet Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and Residency Review Committee (RRC) requirements.
