UTHealth Houston is revolutionizing healthcare education, innovation, and precision patient care in Texas. Our clinical program for the rare genetic epilepsies, supported by research, is essential for enhancing understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of these conditions. Our goal is to personalize therapies tailored to genetic profiles, significantly improving patient outcomes. At our Center for Neurogenetics, we are expanding our capabilities in the diagnosis and management of the rare epilepsies. This includes cutting edge genetic counseling, developing state-of-the-art digital tools for genetic test interpretation, establishing clinical Centers of Excellence for rare neurological disorders, and active involvement in precision medicine clinical trials.

To expand our initiatives, McGovern Medical School at UTHealth HoustonDepartment of Neurology, is seeking a Neurologist/Epileptologist with expertise in rare neurological disorders to join our dynamic team, which includes specialists in pediatric neurology, adult epilepsy, and research. This role offers the opportunity to engage in groundbreaking research and provide innovative care to patients with rare epilepsies. Ideal candidates should possess a strong clinical background, a passion for tackling complex medical challenges, and a collaborative mindset to work alongside a diverse team of clinical and research experts. This opportunity promises a rewarding journey, making substantial contributions to a pioneering field. Exceptional candidates at an early career stage will also be considered. 

Ideal Candidate:

  • Early, mid-career or senior Pediatric or Adult Neurologist
  • Trained in Clinical and/or Research Fellowship in Epilepsy
  • Keen interest in caring for rare genetic neurological disorders
  • Exposure to evaluating and treating rare genetic epilepsies
  • Interest and expertise in clinical trials
  • Commitment to supporting and growing our rare neurogenetic disorder care and research initiatives
  • Commitment to growing and leading the rare epilepsy genetics clinical program

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with leaders from pediatric neurology, adult epilepsy and the center for neurogenetics to advance care & research for patients with rare genetic epilepsies
  • Collaborate with our Center for Neurogenetics research team to implement genetic information enhanced care across rare epilepsies
  • Expand existing and develop new rare genetic epilepsy specialty clinics and research programs
  • Implement industry sponsored clinical trials for precision therapies

Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MD) from an accredited medical school
  • Board Certification or Eligibility with a Special Qualification in Neurology or Child Neurology
  • Fellowship training in Pediatric Epilepsy, with certification or eligibility in Epilepsy and/or Clinical Neurophysiology
  • Texas medical license (or eligible to be licensed)
  • Proven research and scholarly achievements in epilepsy
  • Prior work with rare epilepsy patient organizations is highly valued
  • Spanish fluency is desirable but not necessary
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and demonstrate a commitment to excellence, discovery, and service, have the potential to be outstanding in field of expertise, and share an interest in fulfilling the common goals of the department and McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston
