The AUPN Coaching Program is designed to support new Department Chairs, Program Directors, and Clerkship Directors during their first three years in the role. The goal is to foster a strong and lasting relationship between coach and mentee, with the coach serving as a trusted and ongoing resource.

Participation Criteria

For Both Coaches and Mentees

  • Connect at least six times over the course of the year, whether by phone, video call, or in person, to ensure a meaningful and productive experience.
  • Whenever possible, make an effort to meet in person at least once each year, ideally at events such as the AAN Annual Meeting, ANA Annual Meeting, or AAN Chair Conferences.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all discussions to build trust and encourage open communication.

For Coaches

  • During your first conversation, help your mentee identify at least five topics they would like to focus on during their first three years, and work with them to rank these topics by importance.
  • After each session, briefly summarize the key discussion points and share them with your mentee for reference and follow-up.
