Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), a nationally ranked non-profit, public health care system, is one of the largest, most comprehensive healthcare providers in New Hampshire and northern New England. Established in 1797, the Geisel School of Medicine is the academic foundation of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). Geisel Medical School and Dartmouth Hitchcock are separate organizational entities but choose to collaborate on research, education and share key infrastructure programs.
Today, with 396 beds and the only level I trauma center in New Hampshire, DHMC is one of only three in northern New England, and it includes New Hampshire's only air ambulance service. Led by CEO and President Joanne Conroy, MD, the leadership team is invested in an era of transformation and growth and is committed to patient care, innovation, research, service, and financial strength.
The Department of Neurology has enjoyed 10 years of successful leadership under Dr. Jeffrey A. Cohen, who has announced his intention to step down. A new strategic opportunity has risen, and a national search is underway to identify a distinguished physician leader to serve as the next Chair, Department of Neurology (Chair of Neurology). In this highly visible role, the Chair of Neurology will arrive at a pivotal time in the history of the field.
The new Chair of Neurology will inherit a strong clinical enterprise and will have an opportunity to sustain an extraordinary legacy established by prior department chairs while bringing added distinction to DHMC through innovation. Clinical chairs at Dartmouth-Hitchcock are also the academic chairs at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and report to the Dean of Geisel for academic and research pursuits. Chairs additionally report to the Chief Clinical Officer of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health System for clinical and service line activities.
The Chair of Neurology will be viewed by all stakeholders as a strong advocate for balancing the academic, educational, and clinical missions of DHMC and will be responsible to implement and oversee excellence, growth, operational and financial performance. The Chair will lead physician collaboration, planning, recruiting and will approve administrative policies and guidelines to ensure the quality and measured outcomes of programs are meeting the highest standards. The successful candidate will promote close collaboration and alignment between system member hospitals in the region. The medical center also provides postgraduate residency and fellowship training programs and has maintained a strong academic commitment through its partnership with the Geisel School of Medicine.
