AUPN Fall Chair's Session 3:
Supply and Demand in Neurology Subspecialties: How can you match the trajectories of trainees to the needs of the present and future?

Tuesday, Oct. 19th
9am-10am CT / 10am - 11am Et

Course Description

Aside from the northeast, there is a large gap nationally between the supply and demand for neurologists. Given advances in neurodiagnostics and neurotherapeutics, the gap is even greater for neurology subspecialities such as neuro immunology, neuromuscular medicine, and headache medicine. Yet, neurology trainees’ career choices do not necessarily align with the need. This session will explore the approaches different chairs use to encourage trainees to consider fellowships in needed subspecialties.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss strategies for recruiting medical students interested in Neurology to focus on needed subspecialties.
  2. Discuss and employ strategies for recruiting Neurology residents who are early in their training to focus on needed subspecialties.
  3. Discuss and employ strategies to facilitate trainees to return to their home institution after additional training.
