The Chair, an innovative and dynamic member of the LSU Health Shreveport leadership team, reports directly to the Dean of the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, David F. Lewis, MD, MBA. The selected candidate will also interact with the leadership of the Ochsner Health System who manages our primary teaching hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe in partnership with LSU.

The Chair exemplifies exceptional leadership, continues the pursuit of clinical and academic excellence and fosters interdisciplinary management of the department’s many areas of specialty. 

LSU Health Shreveport is very committed to growing our clinical services and recruiting top-notch physicians to lead the neurology department.  We have a very effective and collegial collaboration with Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, Pediatrics and Psychiatry as well as other services within our medical center.

The successful candidate must have proven experience as a leader who can inspire and mentor faculty and staff to work together to develop future leaders in the specialty.  It is essential that the candidate possess strong management skills with an ability to grow revenues and meet budgets.  Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituents, both internally and externally are vital. Equally important, the department chair will oversee, coordinate, and encourage research within the department.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have an MD
  • A distinguished record in Neurology
  • Outstanding clinical skills and commensurate clinical activities
  • Candidates must have a firm commitment to the education of residents and medical students
  • Qualify for the rank of Professor of Neurology
  • Eligibility for a Louisiana Medical License is required
