Westchester Medical Center: Neurohospitalist

The Neurology Department at Westchester Medical Center (WMC) is seeking enthusiastic applicants to join our rapidly growing faculty.

Position Summary:
The successful applicant will join our rapidly expanding, dynamic neurohospitalist team. They will be responsible for providing high quality care for a broad range of patients with complex neurological illnesses outside the Neurological Intensive Care Unit. The Neurology Department at WMC has a robust quality improvement program, and the successful applicant can expect to be actively involved in this. They will have the opportunity to provide inpatient care for a wide variety of patients with complex neurological illnesses, have the support of a growing faculty of subspecialists, and enjoy a close working relationship with our neurosurgery team as well as a dedicated neurointensivist team. WMC prides itself in being the only comprehensive stroke center in the county, and our dynamic stroke team is the primary provider of stroke care in the Neurology Department. However, some amount of cross-coverage can be expected. The neurohospitalist may also have the opportunity to participate in our expanding teleneurology and telestroke programs, which provide care for patients in several of our affiliated hospitals, depending on their interest.

In addition to increasing our number of specialists and subspecialists, the Department of Neurology is also actively building a lively and energetic team of advanced practice providers (APPs). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work closely with our APPs and will be able to provide input in the ideal structure of this program. The Neurohospitalist Program at WMC is an academic teaching service, with residents and medical students rotating through the service. This provides an exciting teaching opportunity for the successful candidate through bedside teaching rounds as well as participating in the academic teaching opportunities for medical students and residents through New York Medical College.

In order to afford the best provider experience, The Neurohospitalist Program at this time follows a 5-day schedule with weekend coverage shared with current staff and call exclusively taken from home. Some outpatient coverage may be included.

Qualifications:
The Neurology Department at WCM prides itself in having a welcoming atmosphere with an emphasis on a collegial work environment in which our faculty are allowed to follow their interests. Our patient population provides constant intellectual challenges and stimulation. Our academic affiliation allows for ample teaching and research opportunities. Applicants who have a specific subspecialty interest are welcome to apply.

We are seeking applicants with excellent clinical and communication skills who enjoy working in a dynamic team, are interested in teaching of medical students and residents and are excited by the prospect of helping the Neurology Department thrive by leading a performance-driven service. They must be board certified or board eligible in neurology, as well as in a neurological subspecialty as applicable. The successful candidate must be licensed or eligible for licensure in New York State.
