Saint Louis University School of Medicine seeks an accomplished physician leader to serve as the Department Chair of Neurology.
Through nearly a century of exemplary experience, the Department of Neurology at Saint Louis University has demonstrated a commitment to providing exceptional care to patients by having a team of dedicated and highly specialized neurologists who can assess and manage diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. The Department offers state-of-the-art neurological education, compassionate patient care, and a growing research enterprise. With the recent integration of the School’s physician practice organization into SSM Health, the Department of Neurology is poised for growth across each of its mission areas of education, research, and patient care.
The Chair reports to the Dean of the School of Medicine with regard to the Department’s academic mission of education and research and to the Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs with regard to its clinical patient-care mission. The Chair of the Department of Neurology is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the Department functions, including education, research, and clinical services.
With an excellent staff of adult and child neurology faculty, residents, fellows, and APPs, the department offers a full range of adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatient specialty services. In addition to being recognized as a Level 1 Time Critical Diagnosis Center for Stroke and a NAEC Level IV epilepsy center, departmental highlights include a 15-bed NICU; a large multidisciplinary ALS clinic; a state-of-the-art Neurophysiology lab; and specialty clinics including for Movement Disorders, Headache, Epilepsy and New Onset Seizure, Neuromuscular Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, and Non-epileptic seizures.
Qualifications

The Chair must be an MD/DO or equivalent, hold current Board certification in Neurology, and be eligible for an unrestricted Missouri state medical license. Additionally, the Chair will have credentials that merit appointment in the School of Medicine at the rank of Associate or Full professor.
Candidates will possess an approachable, servant-leader style and will demonstrate excellence in teaching, clinical practice, program development, and experience in research administration. They will have a record of cooperative working relationships and effective use of interpersonal and communication skills that incorporate tact and diplomacy. The Chair will be capable of establishing a culture of physician engagement, accountability, and shared responsibility for patient safety and the quality of care, and will bring a willingness to learn and collaborate in all aspects of the School’s strategic approach to education, research, patient care, diversity, and inclusion.
