Message from John England, MD AUPN President

The consensus is that the 2024 Annual AUPN Meeting was a great success! We enjoyed many interactive educational and fun sessions. I would like to thank all our members and presenters for their hard work and participation. I am especially grateful for our important collaboration with the ANA. Those who attended the meeting can complete meeting evaluations and claim CME credits via the AUPN website, which will be active until October 14th. We are currently acquiring and sorting session slides from the ANA meeting. When available, the slides will be posted on the AUPN website, and we will notify all attendees.

We are already beginning to plan for the AUPN’s 2nd annual meeting, which will be held at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, MD on Saturday, September 13, 2025. This is the day before the annual meeting of the ANA which will be held at the same venue. Please place this on your calendars now.

A few other important notices are highlighted below.

New Institutional Member

AUPN welcomes Atrium Health Neurosciences Institute as our newest institutional member! Atrium Health is based in Charlotte, NC. Donna Graves, MD is the Chair of Neurology. Dr. Graves specializes in multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology. She is the Specialty Medical Director of Neurology at all Atrium Health Neurosciences Institute locations.

Please join me in giving Atrium Health and Dr. Graves a warm welcome to AUPN!

Leadership Minute

This month’s Leadership Minute is entitled “Simulation in 21st Century Neurology”. The featured speaker is Nicholas A. Morris, MD from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and the moderator is Tracey A. Milligan, MD from New York Medical College. Dr. Morris discusses the history and current usefulness of simulation-based medical education. He points out that simulation has deep roots in clinical neurology. He then describes the current state of simulation learning, emphasizing the promise as well as challenges of adopting simulation in the educational arena.
