Albany Medical College: Chair, Department of Neurology

The Albany Medical College is seeking applicants for the position of Chair of the Department of Neurology. Candidates should possess an MD or MD PHD degree, hold board certification and be eligible for licensure in medicine in the state of New York. The selected candidate will occupy the Bender Family Chair in Neurology and will be the Service Chief at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

The Department of Neurology provides medical student teaching, residency training, fellowship training, research and clinical service at the Albany Medical Center Hospital and other locations throughout northeastern New York.

The Department Chair leads a team of over 35 neurology faculty who participate in teaching and research programs and provide a broad spectrum of general and subspecialty neurological services. Faculty work collaboratively with their colleagues in the Departments of Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, PM&R and others to provide the most advanced care in the region.

The Department includes subspecialty divisions in all areas including child neurology and a Level 2 HDSA Center of Excellence in Huntington’s Disease. Albany Med is the only hospital in the region to be certified by both the New York State Department of Health as a Stroke Center and by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. Albany Med also has the region’s only 15-bed neuro intensive care unit, a six-bed adult and a six-bed pediatric epilepsy monitoring unit.
