McGovern Medical School: Director, Multiple Sclerosis Research Group (MSRG)

The Department of Neurology at McGovern Medical School is recruiting for an outstanding leader at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, tenure-track (depending on qualifications), for the position of Director, Multiple Sclerosis Research Group (MSRG). The MSRG program currently consists of five clinical/research faculty active in our multiple sclerosis outpatient clinics, inpatient consultative services, active clinical, translational and basic research aspects of CNS inflammatory and demyelinative diseases, and the education of medical and graduate students, neurology residents and fellows.

The successful candidate will direct the clinical, research and educational programs in multiple sclerosis within the Department of Neurology, will be an outstanding academic leader and respected clinician and researcher with demonstrated ability to effectively inspire, manage, mentor and develop a culturally diverse faculty and staff. We seek candidates with prior administrative and leadership experience gained within a department of neurology; strong interpersonal and communication skills that complement a passion for excellence and achievement; expertise in the clinical care of those with multiple sclerosis and related neuroimmunologic disorders; and experience in graduate and post-graduate medical education. In addition, the candidate should have research interests: either in clinical or translational science. It is important that the new director possess a vision to assure the division and department grows in rank and reputation. The physician based position will be responsible for the oversight and management of the physician practice and receives direct supervision and support from the Chair of Neurology.

The candidate must hold an MD, DO or MD/PhD, be a board certified/eligible neurologist who has completed fellowship training in MS and related research areas and be licensed in the state of Texas (or eligible to be licensed)

Experience in neuroimmunology
Active competitive extramural funding
Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)
Masters of Business Administration and/or demonstrated administrative skills
