AMA Prior Authorization and Utilization Management Reform Principles

The American Medical Association (AMA) recently issued a press release about the Prior Authorization and Utilization Management Reform Principles. The principles were created by a 17-member coalition of state medical associations, national medical specialty societies, national provider associations, and patient organizations that have been actively engaged on prior authorization issues. The principles will form the foundation of a multi-pronged advocacy campaign with health plans, benefit managers, accreditation organizations, and other health care stakeholders to reduce the administrative burdens and barriers to timely patient care associated with prior authorization and other utilization management programs.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response from the Federation, the AMA will be creating a list of supporting organizations to be posted with the principles on the AMA website. If your organization would like to be listed as a supporter of the principles as written, please contact Heather McComas (heather.mccomas@ama-assn.org ).
